A murder mystery that is definitely not a cozy mystery. The best preview is on the cover of the book, “His mistress is dead. His wife is his only hope.” This mystery is clever and intriguing. I highly recommend it.
Literary Leftovers are book reviews and recommendations that do not contain recipes, but are books that I highly recommend.
The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose
Mystery Thriller Books🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪
Book Review Outline and Tone:
The book cover has the word Perfect crossed out. Simply reading the cover of the novel it is apparent that the marriage is not perfect. Adam’s mistress is found dead in their lake home. A mistress and a murder make this novel a bit more graphic than novels I typically review. So why am I reviewing it? The novel had me hooked from early on. Be prepared for swear words and some graphic content, but the story is a fabulous who-done-it!.
Author Jeneva Rose utilized one of my favorite writing techniques and that is changing point of view. Each chapter is told by either Adam or his wife Sarah. The change in perspective gives the novel a feeling of 2 novels effortlessly dove tailed together. The reader gets to what each of the two main characters are thinking and why they are doing what they do.
I just happened to read this at the same time as my grown daughter. She was a few chapters ahead of me and I kept telling her my guesses for who killed Kelly and why. I’m not sure who had more fun, me because I was able to make several guesses or her because she knew the answers and was only allowed to respond “Interesting” to all of my guesses.
A good mystery keeps you guessing until the end and provides a sense of catharsis with the resolution. Did he? Didn’t he? Did I have a sense of justice served and cathartic release of feelings? Let me just say, you won’t be disappointed.
The author:
Jeneva Rose is a New York Times best selling author. This novel The Perfect Marriage is her biggest success, so far. I expect she will be writing more best sellers. In fact on Facebook, she announced she is writing a sequel to The Perfect Marriage! She has a newsletter that you could sign up for on https://www.jenevarose.com/ . She is active on Twitter, @jenevarosebooks and she recently announced her next book. On Instagram, @Jenevaroseauthor, she posts videos and more information about her activities.
What is not to like?:
It didn’t bother me, only made me more intrigued, but there are definitely swear words and graphic descriptions of the violence and some intimacy.
The verdict:
The way this book plays out will not only keep you guessing but thinking about it for days after you have finished the book. I am most excited that the author has recently announced that there will be a sequel. This is a must read.
Book Club Books Recommendation:

I especially like The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton.
