How Literary Baker Got Started

The perfect chocolate chip cookie. Everyone has a special secret recipe. I have one and so does my sister and believe it or not, the recipes are not the same! One time when we had all our kids together we decided to make cookies and then began arguing which recipe we would use. “My recipe is the best! Everyone loves them,” I insisted. “My kids are picky about what they eat and if they love my cookies then my recipe has to be the best,” she swore. The only way to decide who had the best recipe was to do a bake off. We didn’t want to just leave this important decision to the children, so we offered up a cookie taste test to her neighbors. Warm, gooey, sweet and perfectly baked I presented my cookies. I was devastated that my recipe didn’t win, however; her recipe didn’t win either. The contest ended in a tie! Like they say in hockey, ending in a tie is like kissing your sister. So we decided to agree that we both had excellent recipes and left it at that.

I love to read, and to bake, and to watch crime shows, and to hike. This blog combines two of my great loves; baking and reading. I have been on Pinterest, pinning and baking for years and decided it was finally time for me to join the ranks of those sharing all the good things they love. As an English teacher, I also love to read. And yes, I’ve read most of the classics and enjoy breaking down literary elements, but outside of the classroom, I just love to be entertained.

The genre of cozy mysteries is my favorite. A few years ago I stumbled across a Joanne Fluke novel, which is a cozy mystery that had recipes in it. I began making some of the recipes from her books. And that is when my 2 loves collided and combined to make Literarybaker.com. I now blog book reviews and review at least one recipe for each book. I also give you my recommended modifications to the recipes based on my baking experiences.

I invite you to join me in reading and baking through several different book series. Pick and choose based either on the recipe or the book or the synopsis. I will never reveal spoilers!

A Challenge for you!

Here is my first challenge for you; who has the better chocolate chip cookie recipe? Join my monthly email newsletter and I will include both recipes. Once you have tried them, you can vote on which you prefer.  See the current results on my Sister page of this blog.

My monthly newsletter will include a book review for a novel that does not include a recipe, but a book that I highly recommend. I will also include one of my tried and true recipes from my own kitchen.
