Why I Love These Books
All of Stacy Willingham’s novels are set in the South. There is a long standing history of novels and short stories set in the South. Many novels set in the South fit into a category labeled southern gothic. Some of my favorites include; “A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner, “A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor, and “A Worn Path” by Eudora Welty. Willingham’s novels mimic some of the characteristics of the Southern Gothic tradition. The novels contain family secrets, small towns that promote gossip and a sense of claustrophobia. Her main characters, like the antagonists, are flawed and sometimes unreliable. All of these elements make for books you can’t put down and won’t easily predict the endings. These are great psychological thrillers.
